Alpine star Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in a good place" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, following securing a podium spot for the fourth instance in her last five World Cup events. The veteran athlete, who achieved a milestone by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup podium finish. Strong Return in the French Alps Competing at the French Alps resort for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn finished the course in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing second place. "I was slightly lacking enough direction on the first jump," Vonn remarked. "From that point on, I performed strongly. I'm satisfied with my skiing today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough." This result was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also finished third in the downhill on Saturday. A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement Vonn officially retired in early 2019 because of persistent injuries. However, she made a stunning return in late 2024 following a significant orthopedic procedure. With 47 days remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's form are timely. She already possesses one gold and two bronze medals in her collection and is strongly positioned to compete for the United States at the next Olympics. "At the Olympics, I will be where I need to be," Vonn affirmed. Aiming for Further Glory In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has won over a professional journey spanning two decades. She currently holds a substantial lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table. This season's World Cup campaign features a nine more events taking place before the season finals in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
