Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
