The network's Leading New Show of This Year Gets a Significant Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel introduced a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. In an era often characterized by bleakness, this show's earnestness found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and championed its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this charming family go about their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to help comedy break out of its current sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

The Path Forward

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well be part of that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
